PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino 3rd has declared next year’s observance of the EDSA People Power Revolution as a special non-working holiday.
Through Proclamation No. 1071, Aquino said February 25, 2016 will be the 30th anniversary of the bloodless coup that toppled the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos.
Aquino has declared the date as a holiday for the past four years but only for educational institutions.
The flight of Marcos led to the assumption to power of the late President Corazon Aquino, the president’s mother.
“It is but fitting and proper that the entire Filipino nation be given the opportunity to observe this milestone in our country’s history,” said the Proclamation.
Likewise, Aquino declared November 18 and 19 as special non-working days in the National Capital Region through Proclamation 1072.
The said dates will cover the holding of the Asia pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) forum that will be hosted by the Philippines.
The Apec leaders’ meeting, to be joined in by 21 world leaders will be held in Metro Manila also on the said dates.
