February 25 has been declared a special holiday but only for schools.
This means that it will be a regular working day for government and private workers.
The country will mark the 29th anniversary of the 1986 People Power Revolution on that day.
This year’s celebration theme will be “Ituloy ang Pagbabago [Onward With Reform],” Presidential Communications Office Secretary Herminio Coloma said over the weekend.
Commissioner Emily Abrera of the EDSA People Power Commission earlier said this year’s celebration will be “very simple.”
“Next year will be [the]30th anniversary celebration, so we can go all out for the 30th,” Abrera added.
Previous activities commemorating the peaceful revolution had been generally festive.
A Mass will be held at the People Power Monument on EDSA to be presided by Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle.
President Benigno Aquino 3d and his sisters are expected to attend the event.
On February 24, former President Fidel Ramos will lead the annual flag-raising and wreath-laying to commemorate past heroes, including the military personnel who supported the revolution.
