WEEKENDS are precious days mostly spent with people close to your heart. After a grueling week of rushing to meet deadlines, paperwork, and reports in the office, a quick getaway with family and friends may be the best shield against the stress of life’s daily grind.

Luckily, there are familiar places not far from the city that provide comfort and relaxation—while offering fun and exciting activities that can be enjoyed by children and the young at heart.

Just an hour and a half away from Manila’s bustling streets is Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga, where one can also find the first international chain hotel in the region. Since 1996, Holiday Inn Clark has serviced young families and frequent business travelers, who have enjoyed the familiar service and facilities of the international brand hotel.

“As one of the world’s most recognized brand, our guests already know what they are expecting from us, which is the same high standard of quality and service at an excellent value. It is every bit as important to us that our warmth, commitment to service, comfort and reliability is felt by our guests,” said Aimee Lagman, the hotel’s PR and marketing manager.

Strategically situated in front of the Mimosa Leisure Estate, families can enjoy sporting activities when staying at Holiday Inn, such as billiards, table tennis, foozball and darts, while dads and their business partners can also enjoy a friendly game of golf.

Besides sporting activities, nature lovers and trippers can also spend a day at the Zoocobia Fun Zoo, where guests are invited to feed different animals and enjoy a leisurely walk against nature’s backdrop.

Moreover, the seven-hectare government project Nayon Pilipino is a destination within the area that rekindles the Filipino spirit with stage shows, exhibits, and tours, which feature the country’s colorful history and cultural heritage.

New and improved
Not long after the Holiday Inn in the Philippines was opened in Clark, Pampanga, the world-famous brand made its way to the business district of Ortigas in 2003, and more recently in Makati in 2013.

True to its mission to provide “quality hospitality and affordability” for local and international travelers, Holiday Inn chose to open their outlets in key locations in the metro for guests to enjoy the familiarity and simplicity of a place they can call “home” while not going far from the demands of work.

“Every time we put up a Holiday Inn hotel, we continue to receive positive responses, excitement and a feeling of familiarity,” Lagman shared with The Manila Times.

“With our Manila Galleria property as the first mid-market hotel to rise in the business district of Ortigas, and our Makati property as the only international mid-market hotel in Ayala Center, we receive an equal mix of corporate and leisure travelers, and during weekends, and we also see a lot of families spending what is now known as ‘staycations’ in the hotel,” she added.

Ever attentive to the demands of their most loyal patrons and guests, the brand has undergone a global re-launch that started in 2007. After two years of painstakingly conducting consumer research, Holiday Inn introduced a number of changes beginning with a new logo, outdoor lighting and landscaping, as well as stylish lobby touches that feature their standard metal name. They have also improved their shower facilities and sleeping experience, brought by their soft and firm pillow choices.

“The re-launch is far more than just cosmetic. It is a renewed commitment to deliver best-in-class service and physical quality levels,” Lagman enthused.

Familiar places
For those who simply want to enjoy a worry-free weekend, spending time in familiar places may be an easier and more convenient destination for a quick getaway. In Makati and Ortigas, shopping malls, movie houses and restaurants of different varieties will surely keep anyone leisurely busy.

Those who opt to totally escape the city without having to go too far, a quick drive to Clark, Pampanga can help relax the mind and body.

Either way, quick vacations do not have to be complicated because weekend getaways are now easy to plan and enjoy.
