AN Army officer died while three other soldiers were injured when their vehicle were pinned down during a landslide in Infanta, Quezon, on Wednesday night. Lt. Col. Christopher Tampus, commander of the Army’s First Infantry Battalion identified the victim as 1st Lt. Michelle Mae Dilos Delariarte, 25, a civil-military operations officer. Injured were 2nd Lt. Sarah Jane Bagasol, 24; Cpl. Cherryl Ramirez, 24; and Cpl. Renato Villanueva, 32. They were taken to the nearby Claro M. Recto Hospital. Tampus said the incident happened shortly after the group went to Manila to buy gift items for raffle for the battalion’s Christmas party on Friday. The group later informed Tampus that they were stranded along National Road in Barangay Magsaysay, Infanta, because of a landslide. While on their way to pick up the stranded Army troops, Tampus and his men got a call from one of them and told to hurry up as the landslide had already hit the vehicle, causing it to roll over several times.
