• Female police officer found dead inside Camp Crame

A POLICEWOMAN with a gunshot wound in the head was found on Thursday inside the compound of the Crime Laboratory Services (CLS) in Camp Crame, the headquarters of Philippine National Police (PNP).

Senior Supt. Wilben Mayor, PNP spokesman, in a phone interview identified the dead policewoman as Insp. Romela Medina, assigned at the finance service department of the Crime Laboratory Service.

The PNP spokesman said Medina’s body was discovered by PO3 Rhea Ribano at about 7:30 a.m. inside the finance office section of the Crime Laboratory Service (CLS).

Initial investigation said that Medina’s bore a gun-shot wound on the right temple. Investigators also found her .9mm Tangfolio pistol a few meters away from her dead body.

The PNP spokesman said that Medina was formerly assigned at the crime lab of the Manila Police District (MPD) before being transferred in Camp Crame after passing the police lateral entrance exam.

“She’s on an OJT (on-the-job training) at the crime laboratory after she passed the lateral entrance exam,” Mayor said.

The PNP spokesman decline to say if there was a foul play since the incident is still being investigated by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG). ANTHONY VARGAS

    1. It remains to be seen if she really did commit suicide. As she was on training after passing a lateral exam, is this not an indication she had future plans? She has always been a strong personality and she has kids back home. Her last post on FB was around 10pm Oct.10 which caught my attention as it mentioned of bravery in the face of death. Prior to that, friends have indicated she was replying to sms. And she had recently changed her FB profile photos with that of herself and her husband and of their kids. It needs to be checked whether that post was a message to reach out for help against a threat that she could not directly say.
