Fernandez returns as Red Lions coach

San Beda College confirmed the return of Boyet Fernandez as Red Lions head coach in the upcoming National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 93 filling up the void left by Jamike Jarin.

Jude Roque, the team manager of defending champions Red Lions, confirmed to The Manila Times on Monday the reappointment of Fernandez, a former coach of Northern Luzon Expressway in the Philippine Basketball Association.

“After consulting with the school president, Manny V. Pangilinan confirmed last night the appointment of Boyet Fernandez as new Red Lions head coach,” Roque said through a text message. “I got the call from Manny V. Pangilinan last night.”

“It is also a logical choice especially with the newly formed Cignal-San Beda D-League team, which Boyet (Fernandez) will also handle.”

Fernandez led the Red Lions to back-to-back of NCAA championships before he left the team in 2014 to coach NLEX.

Jarin left San Beda reportedly to coach the National University Bulldogs in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines.
