Festival at Mt. Makiling slated in February

In celebration of the National Arts Month, the Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA) will offer the third Makiling Inter-Cultural Arts Festival (Makilinc) from February 1 to 7.

Los Baños City Mayor Caesar Perez will open the third Makilinc on February 1, as PHSA Deputy Director Ronaldo Abuan will welcome foreign and local guests. A series of performances will be given by PHSA Resident Companies like the Anino Shadowplay Collective, Kuwit, Maquiling Ballet, Musika Ibarang, Sanghiyas Pangkat Mananayaw, and Sipat-Lawin

This will be followed by a series of talks PHSA Director IV Vim Nadera. National Commission for Culture and Arts Chairman Professor Felipe M. de Leon Jr., will be the keynote speaker of the event

For 2016 Makilinc, workshop facilitators include multi-awarded local and international artists namely: Diwa de Leon, a multi-awarded composer, arranger, film scorer, and live musician; Fausto Grossi, a licensed sculptor in Frosinione, Italy and the U.P.V. of Lejona in the Basque Country, Spain where he lives and develops his artistic activity in Bilbao since 1992; Kinesiology student of Rebecca Monet, Riza Lim who is also a master herbalist, holistic health practitioner, brain programmer, and life coach; Ray Lucero Purugannan Cabailo, an original member of Mabuhay Singers created in 1958 by the Villar Recording Company; Marta Moreno Muñoz, a performance and video artist with a background in experimental theater and other time-based arts; and Denisa Reyes, one of the recipients of the 2015 Gawad CCP Para Sa Sining for dance.


The three-day workshop and artists talks are preceded by outreach programs featuring different artistic disciplines.

Makilinc 3 closes on February 5 with exhibits and presentations to be graced by Cultural Center of the Philippines president Raul Sunico, Education Undersecretary Lino Rivera; and other members of the PHSA Advisory Council.

A creative industry tour of Laguna dubbed “Pasyal-Aral Creative Industry CulTour” will be initated on February 6 as part of the Makilinc 3 celebration.
