FAR Eastern University (FEU) notched a 1-0 win over University of the Philippines (UP) through Eric Giganto’s 81st minute goal on Sunday in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) men’s football tourney at the FEU-Diliman football field.
The Tamaraws, bearing a league-best 15 points, remain unbeaten in five games. They are aiming for a sweep of the first round against the De La Salle Green Archers in a televised duel on Friday before the league goes on a holiday break.
In the other match, De La Salle scored a 2-1 win over archrival Ateneo. The Green Archers moved to third place with nine points.
De La Salle is now a point behind University of the East (10 points) that is currently occupying the second spot.
The loss ended the Fighting Maroons two-game winning streak. UP now has six points occupying the fifth place, while the Blue Eagles, have four points through a 1-1-3 slate.
Wednesday’s matches will pit Ateneo against National University at 1 p.m. and UP against University of Santo Tomas at 3 p.m. at the FEU-Diliman football field.
