THE Philippine Azkals under American head coach Thomas Dooley emerged as the No.1 team in Southeast Asia according to the yearend rankings of the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). The Philippines is 130th in FIFA international rankings.
The rankings of the Philippines Southeast Asian neighbors are as follows: Suzuki Cup host Vietnam (137th) followed by Myanmar (141st), Thailand (142nd), Malaysia (154th), Singapore (157th), Indonesia (159th) and Laos (160th).
The Philippines lost to powerhouse Thailand in the recent Asean Football Federation Suzuki Cup semifinals second leg. The Azkals also finished first runner up in the Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup in May in Maldives when it lost to Palestine in the finals.
