Mr. World, the international male pageant organized by the Miss World Organization, is set on June 15 at Torbay, England. Bringing about 60 men from all around the globe, only one will become “The Most Desirable Man in the World.”
For the Philippines, Filipino-American John Spainhour will vie for the coveted title. He was officially announced as this year’s Mr. World representative by no less than Cory Quirino, local licensee holder of Miss World, last May 29 at the Glorietta Mall, Ayala Center in Makati City.
In an interview with The Manila Times, Quirino shared how they selected Spainhour as Mr. Philippines-World 2014. “We called for qualified male candidates to represent the Philippines, but not a lot attended. The final two, John Spainhour and Sam Ajdani, were the best choices to represent the Philippines. And today we have finally chosen John since he has the experience and is well-prepared for the pageant.”
She then explained that the Mr. World focuses not only in physical beauty but also in “strength and endurance.” And Spainhour’s background deemed him ready to compete in the pageant.
The 26-year-old hunk has been in the military while he was residing in North Carolina, US. He was in the Marine Corps for five years. Going to the Philippines in 2011, he then explored the local modeling scene. He even became the male winner of Century Tuna Superbods 2012.
On May 30, a day after the announcement, Spainhour left for Europe to embark on Mr. World’s training and pre-pageant activities.
