Filipino Treat Conrad Huey and British Dominic Inglot stunned No. 7 Rohan Bopanna of India and Aisam Ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan, 6-4, 7-6 (1), to reach the quarterfinals of the prestigious 2014 Australian Open men’s doubles on Sunday in Melbourne.
The 12th-seeded tandem Filipino-British tandem needed just one hour and 19 minutes to oust the veteran pair of Bopanna and Qureshi.
Huey and Inglot fired a total of 72 points including 10 aces and 35 winners while Bopanna and Qureshi got a 61-point showing.
In the quarterfinals, Huey and Inglot will be meeting the winner between No. 1 Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan of US, and American Eric Butora and South African Raven Klaasen.
Earlier, Huey and Inglot survived Colombians Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah in the first round, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, and Italians Andreas Seppi and Potito Starace in the second round, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-1.
It is Huey and Inglot’s second quarterfinal stint in a Grand Slam event after reaching the same stage in the US Open last year.
