• Fil-Am, partner enter semis of Swiss Indoor tennis


    Filipino-American Treat Conrad Huey and British partner Dominic Inglot advanced to the semifinals of the 2013 Swiss Indoors Basel tennis tournament in Basel, Switzerland.

    Huey and Inglot stunned the No. 2 pair of Aisam Qureshi of Pakistan and Jean-Julien Rojer of the Netherlands, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-8, in the first round and ousted Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan and Horacio Zeballos of Argentina, 6-4, 7-6 (5), in the quarterfinals.

    In the semifinals, Huey and Inglot will be up against the French duo of Michael Llondra and Nicolas Mahut, a 6-3, 7-6 (5) winner over Germany’s Andre Begemann and Martin Emmrich.

    At the World Super Junior Tennis Championships in Osaka, Japan, Filipino Maika Tanpoco and Australian Stephanie Yamada beat Yuki Fujiwara and Mei Otsuka of Japan, 6-3, 6-1, to reach the girls’ doubles second round.

    Tanpoco lost to Japanese Ayaka Higashi, 2-6, 3-6, in the first round of the singles event.

    Another Filipino, Alberto Lim Jr., who also succumbed in the singles play on Tuesday, was still unlucky as he and Thai partner Congsup Congcar bowed to Japan’s Daiki Hayashi and Yuki Mochiduki, 5-7, 3-6, in doubles.
