Filipino-American Treat Huey and British partner Dominic Inglot advanced to the second round of the US Open men’s doubles in Flushing Meadows, New York.
The No. 16 tandem of Huey and Inglot needed an extra set to oust Austrians Julian Knowle and Jurgen Melzer, 6-2, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (5), in the first round match that lasted for two hours and 10 minutes.
Huey and Inglot combined for 106 total points including 12 aces. They won two of the nine break-point opportunities.
In the second round, Huey and Inglot will meet Daniele Bracciali of Italy and Lukas Diouhy of the Czech Republic, who defeated the Italians Paolo Lorenzi and Andreas Seppi, 7-5, 7-5.
For reaching the second round, Huey and Inglot are now assured of $12,500 cash prize.
Huey and Inglot, owner of two Association of Tennis Professionals World Tour runner-up trophies this year, have already matched their second-round finish in the 2012 edition with high hopes of surpassing their third-round exploits in 2011.
Huey is also scheduled to play in the mixed doubles with American partner Raquel Kops-Jones. They will tackle Americans Victoria Duval and Donald Young in the opening round.
