Handsome and talented Artista Academy finalist Mark Neumann is finally getting his big break on TV5 as he stars in the very first Filipino adaptation of hit Korean series Baker King. Premiering on May 18, Mark will bring to life the role of Takgu, an illegitimate son of an affluent businessman who runs the family’s bread company.
The Tagalized version of Baker King originally aired over GMA Network in 2011, and its high ratings is a good sign that TV5 may have chosen a winner in their latest prime time project.
Mark, whose father is Filipino and mother a Croatian, is thrilled over the opportunity to portray such a well-loved role both in Korea and the Philippines.
“Ito po ang biggest break ko sa TV5,” he acknowledged at a small press huddle this week, which included The Manila Times. “Talagang pinag-aralan ko yung role ni Tagku. I’ve finished watching the Korean version, and now I’m almost done with the Tagalized version, kasi pinilit talaga naming maging as close as possible to the original itong version namin.”
The 20-year-old hottie noticeably makes an effort to speak mostly in Filipino even if his first language was German.
“Doon po ako lumaki and unang nag-aral, tapos po nag high school din ako sandali dito sa Pilipinas, tapos natapos po ako ng Tourism sa England,” Mark shared. “Fluent po ako sa German, English, and siyempre sa Tagalog,” he added with his killer smile.
The actor, however, corrected misconceptions that he comes from an affluent family, having lived in many countries around the world. In fact, he can even connect with Tagku’s character on some level, having worked in a factory in England when he was only 16.
“Kami po yung nagkakahon ng mga products nung factory na pinag-traba-huhan ko, kaya sanay po ako sa pagod,” he continued. “Dito, baking naman ang kailangan kong gawin, kaya nag-aral din akong gumawa ng pan de sal.”
Directed by Mac Alejandre, Baker King presents the story of how a simple boy overcomes many obstacles and achieve his dreams in life through sheer determination and perseverance. Joining Mark in the cast are Shaira Mae, Raymond Bagatsing, Diana Zubiri, Boots Anson Roa, Joonee Gamboa, Akihiro Blanco, Inah Estrada, Yul Servo, Allan Paule, Ian de Leon, Malak So Shdifat, and Nicole Estrada.
Baker King will air Monday to Friday at 9:30 p.m. on TV5 beginning tomorrow.
