Filipino-American mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Brandon Vera is all set to defend his ONE Championship heavyweight title against Hideki Sekine in the main event of ONE: Age of Domination on December 2, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The 39-year-old Vera knocked out Paul Cheng in the first round of their ONE encounter in December 2015.
Vera will pit his prowess against the undefeated Japanese Sekine, who holds an unblemished MMA record of seven straight wins.
“Before training did not feel like I was working because it was not that serious, but this time, it felt harder because I wake up to go to the training sessions each day,” Vera said during a prefight interview on Tuesday.
Vera said that through his new program, he has achieved his best form and fitness ever.
“Training has been phenomenal. I train with the best fighters in the world at Alliance MMA and with some really top guys in the Philippines as well. I am always in shape and ready to go,” he said.
“My mixed martial arts career has had its ups and downs, highs and lows. But I feel that right now, I’m the best that I have ever been. I’m in my prime and I feel great.
I can’t wait to be inside that ONE Championship cage again. The big fight atmosphere in Manila is amazing. Filipino fight fans are a passionate bunch,” Vera concluded.
