Filipino-American mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Brandon Vera will defend his ONE heavyweight title against Japanese challenger Hideki Sekine in the main event of ONE: Age of Domination today at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
“I am ready to fight and defend my title,” said the 39-year old Vera in a media statement on Tuesday.
Vera said he is excited to step inside the cage to see the fruits of his hard training.
Vera, who is on a two-fight winning streak, holds a 14-7 win-loss card.
“I love this country so much. I am here to help other fighters and I’m going to make sure I won’t be the last Filipino heavyweight world champion,” added Vera.
His opponent, Sekine, is making his debut in ONE Championship after creating a name in DEEP, a Japanese MMA promotion.
Sekine owns a record of seven wins including three victories by submission and another three by knockout.
“I have waited a long time for this. I believe my time is now and I am excited to showcase my skills in front of thousands of MMA fans,” said Sekine.
Sekine added he is not afraid of fighting Vera in the latter’s home turf.
“I believe he’s also very good at what he does. But I am also good at what I do. I am excited for the fight and meet the Filipino people,” he said.
Five Team Lakay standouts Geje Eustaquio, Honorio Banario, Edward Kelly, Danny Kingad and April Oseanio are also set to face their respective rivals tonight.
Eustaquio will face Toni Tauru of Finland, Banario will take on Rajinder Singh Meena of India, Kelly will battle Su Noto of Indonesia, Kingad will collide against Eugene Toquero while Osenio will test his mettle against Jenny Huang of Taiwan.
