• Filipina batters bow to Delaware

    Defending champion Team Manila-Philippines succumbed to Host District III-Delaware, 0-1, for its second straight loss in the prestigious 2013 Big League Softball World Series Championship being held at the Layton Field in Sussex, Delaware.

    Veteran pitcher Mykala Steele had six strikeouts and surrendered one walk and four hits for Host District III-Delaware while Rachel Hudson scored the lone run of the team in the second inning.

    Delaware remained unbeaten in three games to secure the first semifinals slot in Group B of the world championships for 16-18 years old.

    Central America-Michigan occupies the solo second with 2-1 card while Team Manila-Philippines and East America-Pennsylvania (1-2) are sharing the third position with identical 1-2 slates.

    Team Manila-Philippines battles Central America-Michigan on the final day of elimination round on Friday. The Filipina batters are in a six-point winning margin situation to claim the last ticket to the semifinals.

    Prior to their loss to Delaware, the Filipinas won against Canada, 15-0, before bowing to East America-Pennsylvania, 5-10.

    Leading the country’s charge are Queeny Sabobo, Krisna Paguican and Baby Jane Raro along with newcomers Whell Ghene Camral, Mary Luisse Garde, Lorna Adorable, Mary Ann Antolihao, Angelie Ursabia, Rachell Ann Secor, Adrianne Mei Uy, Hazel Claudette Anque, Rosalyn Boton, Jonalie Almonia, Jelyn Lamata and Agavi Llave.
