Filipina moves to 5th in Bowling World Cup


Filipina Mades Arles improved to fifth position after the third block of the 49th Qubica AMF Bowling World Cup women’s qualifying round on Wednesday in Krasnoyarsk, Russia.

The 25-year-old Arles scored 1,277 pins (221, 193, 178, 213, 214 and 258) in the second block and 1,484 pins (297, 204, 232, 246, 269 and 236) in the third for a total of 4,131 pins. In the first block, Arles had 1,370 pins (256, 259, 205, 211, 223 and 216).

Canadian Caroline Lagrange was still leading with 4,449, followed by two-time world champion Aumi Guerra of Dominican Republic with 4,287, American Danielle McEwan with 4,244 and Singaporean Cherie Tan with 4,179.

Also in the Top 10 are No. 6 Thashaina Seraus of Aruba (4,095), Evgeniya Zelenkova of Russia (4,068), Luminita Farkas Bucin of Romania (4,063), Roosa Lunden of Finland (4,013) and Patcharin Torgersen of Norway (3,992).

In the men’s division, Filipino Benshir Layoso was in fourth place with 2,916 pins after the second block. He is behind Peter Hellstrom of Sweden (3,061), Bodo Konieczny of Germany (2,949) and William Ching of Venezuela (2,932).

The third block was scheduled on Wednesday.

The Top 24 in the men’s and women’s divisions after the 24-game, four-block qualifying round will qualify for the next round. EMIL C. NOGUERA
