Filipinas take first loss in softball world championship



Defending champion Team Manila-Philippines absorbed its first loss in the 2013 Big League Softball World Series Championship in Sussex, Delaware.

Team Manila-Philippines fell short against East America-Pennsylvania, 5-10, in the 16-18 age category this time held at the Comisky Field.

The Filipina batters were actually leading,5-2, at the bottom of the fifth inning but they allowed eight consecutive runs from the Americans in the next frames.

Team Manila-Philippines, representing the Asia-Pacific Region, dropped to 1-1 mark while East America-Pennsylvania gained its first win in three games (1-2). Earlier, Team Manila-Philippines blasted Canada, 15-0.

The Philippines will face Host District III-Delaware on Thursday and Central America-Michigan on Friday.

The Group B teams are Team Manila-Philippines, Canada, Central America, Host District III-Delaware and East America while in Group A are Southwest America, Latin America-Puerto Rico, Southeast America, Europe-Africa and West America.

The team, handled by veteran mentor Ana Santiago, is composed of Queeny Sabobo, Krisna Paguican, Baby Jane Raro, Whell Ghene Camral, Mary Luisse Garde, Lorna Adorable, Mary Ann Antolihao, Angelie Ursabia, Rachell Ann Secor, Adrianne Mei Uy, Hazel Claudette Anque, Rosalyn Boton, Jonalie Almonia, Jelyn Lamata and Agavi Llave.
