• Filipino athletes to benefit from nutrition research

Multinational food supplement Company Usana Health Sciences picked a group of Filipino athletes as beneficiary of its sports nutrition program.

Named Usana Philippines, the members of the group are Rubilin Amit (billiards), Gaby Dela Merced (car racing), Neil Flores (volleyball), Alyssa Valdez (volleyball), Janice Lagman (tae kwon do), Japoy Lizardo (tae kwon do), Christine Patrimonio (tennis), LA Tenorio (basketball) and Abe Avena (golf).

“It has always been our mission to inspire everyone and provide them the means to boost and sustain good health,” Usana General Manager Aurora Gaston told reporters during the press launch at the Enterprise Hotel in Makati City on Monday.

Gaston explained that athletes who are under a Usana program are not receiving monetary compensation but are instead supplied with different Usana supplements that would boost athletic prowess among them control, strength, stamina, recovery, speed and mental toughness.

“I’m so happy to be chosen as member of Usana athletes and their products help me a lot in my daily activity as a player and student,” said University Athletic Association of the Philippines Most Valuable Player Valdez, who is also a member of champion team Ateneo de Manila.

Among world-class athletes that are also under the Usana program are Olympic gold medalist Tyler McGill (swimmer), former world champion Timothy Bradley (boxer), Sarah Hendrickson (ski jumper) and Samantha Stosur (tennis player).
