Filipino duo finish 9th in bowling mixed doubles in World Games


Filipinos Kenneth Chua and Liza del Rosario finished ninth overall in the mixed doubles event of the 2013 World Games bowling competition at the Bowling Coliseum in Cali, Colombia.

Chua and del Rosario had a combined 2,605-pin output in the six-game qualifying round. They averaged 434.2 on 385, 428, 473, 462, 438 and 419 showing.

Americans Michael Fagan and Kelly Kulick topped the event. Taking the silver medal were Canadians Lynne Gauther and Dan Maclelland, and Mexicans Alejandro Cruz and Sandra Gongora settled for the bronze.

Chua and del Rosario will be gunning for medals in the individual category beginning on Saturday.

Del Rosario will try to surpass her bronze-medal finish in the women’s singles of the 2009 edition held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

So far, the Philippines has one bronze in the games courtesy of billiards player Dennis Orcollo, who placed third in the men’s 9-ball event.

Italy still leads with 17 golds, 13 silvers and 15 bronzes, followed by Russia (15-17-10), France (13-10-9), Germany (12-5-7), China (9-5-1), United States (9-2-4), Ukraine (8-10-8), Colombia (6-7-6), Great Britain (6-5-3), Japan (5-1-4), Brazil (3-3-1) and Belarus (3-1-3).
