After winning two titles in a Grade 1 China tournament, promising netter Alberto Lim Jr. now shifts his sights on the 2015 US Open juniors championship main draw scheduled next month in New York.
“I really want to make it to the Top 10 but it’s not an easy task. I need to come up with good results in every tournament that I’ll be joining,” said Lim.
The 16-year-old Colegio de San Juan de Letran standout is currently No. 27 in the International Tennis Federation (ITF) world junior ranking.
He has 557.5 points for winning three singles titles, three doubles crown and a couple of runner-up finishes also in doubles.
Recently, Lim ruled the singles and doubles of the China Junior 14 held in Nanjing where he defeated third seed Wu Yibing of China in the finals, 6-0, 6-3. He connived with Indian Nikshep Ballekere Ravikumar to top the doubles play.
“It was a great run. Everything just fell into place,” added Lim.
Early this year, Lim dominated the singles events of the Delhi ITF Juniors and India ITF Junior 1 tournaments, and the doubles in the Asian Closed Junior Championships in India and the 25th Sarawat Chief Minister’s Cup Junior Tennis Championship in Malaysia.
He was part of the ITF world team that saw action in some European events including the French Open and Wimbledon junior championship.
“Marami akong natutunan ‘nung nasa ITF world team ako. It was a great experience. Masaya yung team plus pang world-class ang mga mentors namin,” said Lim.
