Lorena outclassed FIDE Master (FM) Anas Nazreen Bakri of Malaysia in the final round to end his campaign unbeaten.

He collected a total of  points, good enough to rule the seven-round tournament that attracted some 140 players.

NMs Nelson Villanueva and Efren Bagamasbad, and untitled Eden Diano of the Philippines, and FM Ronnie Lim and unranked Jax Hong, Zaidan Zulkipli and Evan Timothy Capel of Malaysia finished in a seven-way tie for the No. 2 spot with six points each.

But Villanueva took the runner-up honors by virtue of superior tiebreak points.

Recently, Team Philippines also dominated the 33rd Astro Merdeka Rapid Open Team Chess Championship-10th Malaysian Chess Festival 2013 in Kuala Lumpur.

Grandmaster-elect and 2003 Asian zonal champion Ronald Dableo, FMs Christopher Castellano and Roderick Nava, and Ivan Gil Biag made up the champion team.
