Filipino chess master Ben Largo dominated the Ambank Amateur Open 10th IGB Malaysian Chess Festival 2013 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Largo wrapped up the nine-round tournament with a total score of eight points. He defeated compatriot National Master (NM) Carlo Lorena in the ninth round.
Lorena, who ruled the 2013 Battle Chess Selangorku Rapid Chess II also held in Malaysia last week, settled for second with 7.5 points. He was actually in a two-way tie for No. 2 with Malaysian Tan Eng Seong, but Lorena edged Seong on a tiebreak.
Marvin Ting of Bacolod City and Isidro Gallon of Manila finished with six points in the event which drew some 103 players.
NM Leonardo Alidani, Perpetuo Tan Jr. and Romelin Guerra Nava were in a group of 5.5-pointers while current world’s youngest FIDE Master Alekhine Nouri had 4.5 points and Christine Joyce Dacayo Paragua scored four points.
In the senior division, NM Jose Efren Bagamasbad ended up second with 6.5 points while Grandmaster Dmitry Kayumov of Uzbekistan grabbed the top spot with 7.5.
