It has been two months since GMA Network proudly presented another daring theme over its leading afternoon program block in Destiny Rose—a story of a young transsexxual set to defy the odds and fulfill her dreams of becoming a renowned writer and a full-fledged woman.
Cast in the lead following stringent auditions was 22-year-old Chinese-Filipino actor Ken Chan who has shown is propensity for drama since the series premiere in September.
The show’s followers, however, though hooked on the unique story of one Joey Flores Vergara who tries his best to be the man his parents wish him to be, have become quite impatient to see the promised revelation of the series.
This week, the network announced that Joey will finally transform into Destiny Rose in tonight’s episode, who according to the actor, will seem like a cross between GMA Network’s most important leading ladies, Marian Rivera and Carla Abellana.
“Hindi po ako nag-peg ng isa,” Ken related at a pocket interview at the station’s headquarters in Quezon City. “Para mabuo ko si Destiny Rose—kung paano tumawa, kung paano umiyak—nag-peg ako ng iba-ibang babae. Kunwari kung paano umiyak si Marian Rivera, at kung paano tumawa si Carla Abellana.”
He further admitted, “Mahirap itong gawin. Hindi siya biro, physically and emotionally. Marami akong prosesong pinagdaanan. I went through a lot of workshops and I researched about transgender women, about girls, how they move, talk, communicate, sing, everything.”
However, despite the challenge, Ken above all feels excitement over the much-awaited development in the series.
“Nang nakuha ko na at nahulma ko na si Destiny Rose, natuwa ako at na-overwhelm sa nakikita ko sa sarili ko. Ngayon masasabi ko na na ang sarap ng pakiramdam na nagagawa ko ito as an actor whose duty and is to entertain my viewers and show them a different side of reality,” he ended.
Destiny Rose airs after Buena Familia on GMA Afternoon Prime.
