Filipino Grandmaster (GM) Wesley So finished fourth overall in the 2015 Tata Steel Chess Tournament held in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands.
The 21-year-old So wrapped up his campaign with a victory in the final round against GM Loek Van Wely of the Netherlands.
So collected a total of 8.5 points on five wins, seven draws and one loss. He was actually in a four-way tie for the No. 2 spot with GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France, GM Anish Giri of the Netherlands and GM Ding Liren of China, who also scored 8.5 points each.
But So had inferior tiebreak points to end up fourth overall. Vachier-Lagrave was second, Giri in third and Ding in fifth.
The Filipino champion, however, surpassed his sixth place finish in the 2014 edition of the tournament sanctioned by the International Chess Federation.
World champion GM Magnus Carlsen of Norway took the title with nine points on six wins, six draws and a loss. He split the point with GM Ivan Saric of Croatia in the finals round.
GM Vassily Ivanchuk of Ukraine was sixth (7.5) followed by GM Fabiano Caruana of Italy in seventh (7.0), GM Teimour Radjabov of Azerbaijan in eighth (6.0), GM Radoslaw Wojtaszek of Poland and GM Levon Aronian of Armenia in ninth (5.5), GM Hou Yifan of China in 11th (5.0), Saric in 12th (4.5), Van Wely in 13th (4.0) and GM Baadur Jobava of Georgia in 14th (3.0).
