Three persons were injured after fire razed a cardboard box factory in Libis, Quezon City, on Thursday evening.
Estimated damage to property was around P7 million.
Initial investigation by the Quezon City Fire Department chief, Jesus Fernandez, showed that the fire started at 9:03 p.m.
First alarm was announced at about 9:12 p.m., raised a minute later to 5th alarm and was again raised at about 9:42 p.m., prompting the department to call for additional help from neighboring firefighters.
Injured were fire volunteer Jeffrey Reyes; three-year-old Lian Late Laho, who sustained a thumb burn; and civilian 56-year-old Rodora Apolinario, who fainted upon seeing the fire.
Reports from the QC Fire Department said no employees of Boxboard Containers Corp. on Obrero Street, Barangay Bagong Bayan, were hurt as they immediately saw the smoke coming from the room that had a corrugator, a machine used in making cardboard boxes.
Ashfall was reported to have been generated by the fire.
People in the cities of Pasig, Makati, San Juan, Mandaluyong, Caloocan and Manila reported ashfall falling in their areas in the evening.
Fernandez said the fire was put under control at about 12:50 p.m. of Friday.
According to him, the Bureau of Fire Protection’s Office of the Investigation and Intelligence Division is still investigating the cause of the fire.
But Fernandez said an electrical or a mechanical problem may have caused the blaze.
