• Fire razes commercial district in Cagayan de Oro

CAGAYAN DE ORO: A fire of unknown origin is still raging Thursday afternoon in the downtown district here leading to the city’s commercial district south of the city.

Tap in at past 2 p.m., firefighters are still on the fire scene as the fire threatens to gobble up an upscale hotel, a restaurant, and a commercial building – all in Barangay 35 here.

Village Chief Jun Ligtas, whose three-storey house was completely razed, said that the fire started from a neighbor identified as a certain Ronnie Bendo.

He said that the fire rages fast that they failed to save anything of value.

Ligtas said that there are about 300 families, mostly living in houses made of mix light and concrete materials.

Shirley Teleron, the city’s district fire marshal, said the operation is still going on and the damage could not be ascertained yet as the investigation is still on going.
