Firearms, explosives seized from Maute lair


MARAWI CITY: The police and the military raided on Tuesday a house complex of the Maute family blamed for terroristic activities in the country and recovered firearms and explosives.

A Special Action Force (SAF) commando was wounded during the raid.

Reports said Police Officer 2 Rolando Redondo sustained injuries when he stepped on a booby trap bomb that exploded.

Arrested during the pre-dawn raid in Barangay Lilod Saduc here was a barangay (village) official identified as Hadji Amir Badio, 67.

The operation was conducted with search warrants at the houses of Farhana Maute, mother of other accused Abdullah Maute, Mohammad Khayam Maute, Abdulrahman Maute, Mahater Maute, Abdul Aziz Maute and Hamsa Maute for alleged illegal possession of firearms and illegal drugs.

The police recovered from the house complex two 81-mm mortar cartridges and a Suarez shotgun.

The raid was conducted while military forces continued pursuit operation against the jihadist Maute group at the hometown of the Maute clan called IS Ranao while some government emissaries, backed by relatives of the Mautes, are trying to reach out to youngsters for possible ceasefire talks.

No other persons were found in the compound as it has long been abandoned since the family members were tagged as being behind atrocities in Mindanao.
