First French gastronomy week begins

Two world-renowned French experts will be making a weeklong visit to Manila to share their knowledge on eating smarter and healthier as part of the “Week Gastronomique,” the first culinary-themed event organized by the Embassy of France in Manila.

In partnership with the French Chamber of Commerce and the Mercato Centrale Group, the outdoor food market commonly found on the streets of France will be making its way to Bonifacio Global City in Taguig on October 18 at the Mercato Centrale tent. The public will be able to choose from different culinary offerings and organic produce and participate in various activities such as cooking demonstrations, wine appreciation classes, and pétanque games.

The metro’s best French restaurants such as Aubergine, Brasserie Girole, Le Champêtre, Le Jardin, and Paul Boulangerie and Patisserie will be preparing special set menus available all throughout October.

Week Gastronomique will also have Dr. Jacques Puisais, one of the leading Oenologists in the world, and Dr. Georges Halpern, a well-respected health specialist and academician.

Puisais, known as the “Poet of Wine,” is the founder of France’s Ecole du goût and a founding member of the Chaine des rôtisseurs who is credited for being a pioneer in the development of the rules in the art of wine pairing.

Based in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Halpern specializes in internal medicine and allergies and has been published extensively in various academic journals covering topics such as nutrition, well being, and the benefits of wine.

Together, Puisais and Halpern will be meeting students from the De La Salle-College of St. Benilde, the University of the Philippines, and the Far Eastern University, as well as the country’s top medical specialists, to share their knowledge about wine pairing, nutrition, and the latest trends in the food and beverage industry.
