First Gen to fix broken transformer in Sta. Rita

THE First Gen Corporation (First Gen) disclosed on Wednesday that its 1,000-megawatt (MW) Santa Rita natural gas power plant in Batangas Province lost a quarter of its capacity after one of the plant’s main transformers sustained damage.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), First Gen said a fault occurred at the main generator transformer of Unit 20 of the Santa Rita Combined Cycle Power Plant.

Unit 20 is one of four units of the Santa Rita Power Plant operated by First Gas Power Corporation (FGPC), a subsidiary of First Gen.

“The unit is under scheduled maintenance outage from July 23 to August 26, 2016 for works including maintenance activities on the said transformer,” First Gen said.

“Investigation is ongoing to confirm the condition of the transformer. If necessary, FGPC can immediately deploy its spare main generator transformer which is stored at the Santa Rita Power Plant site,” the energy company said.

The Sta. Rita plant currently supplies electricity to the country’s largest power distribution utility, Manila Electric Co. (Meralco).
