FISHERS TRAIN ON LEGAL FISHING METHODS

0

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)-Zamboanga is training local fishermen to catch more fish through legal methods as the agency continues its campaign against illegal fishing in this city. Pendatun Talib, BFAR Regional Fisheries Training Center head, said local fishermen prefer illegal methods like blast fishing or the use of cyanide since they can catch more compared to the hook and line fishing. Talib said there is a need to inculcate to the fishermen that blast fishing or use of cyanide is dangerous and causes destruction to the marine resources eventually resulting in lesser catch.
