• Fishing crew, vessels nabbed on Tañon Strait


    COMBINED government agencies in Region 7 apprehended 55 fishing crew of four commercial vessels illegal fishing on Tañon Strait, the country’s largest marine protected area, between Cebu and Negros islands in the Visayas.Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 7 director Isabelo Montejo said commercial fishing vessels – FB San Vicente Ferrer and FB Sto. Niño – were caught off the seawaters of Domolog in Bindoy, while FB Adiarne was fishing off the seawaters of Bulado, Guihulngan City, all in Negros Oriental. Another vessel – FB Blue Haven – was apprehended by sea borne patrol operatives on the seawaters of Zaragosa in Badian, Cebu. He said appropriate cases were filed against some 55 fishing crew, including the boat captains of the four vessels.“We hope to sustain our concerted efforts to minimize, if not totally free, Tañon Strait from illegal and destructive fishing activities,” Montejo said.The operation was disclosed during a news conference following the 2nd Tañon Strait Protected Seascape (TSPS) Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) General Assembly at the Cebu Grand Convention Center in Cebu City recently.
