• FISHPEN OWNERS GET P20,000 EACH AS LIVELIHOOD AID

    ILOILO CITY: A total of 40 fishpen owners along the Batiano River in the Oton side were given financial livelihood assistance of P10,000 each coming from Ilonggo Senate President Franklin Drilon amounting P350,000 and P50,000 from the municipality. An additional P10,000 was awarded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development through the self employment assistance-Kauswagan program to fishpen operators to start their alternative livelihood projects. In a report to the Iloilo-Batiano River Development Council chaired by Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, Mayor Vincent Flores of Oton said that they have already identified 116 informal settlers living the Batiano River banks and a 1.5 hectares is being prepared as their relocation site.
