A BIRD strike prompted the cancellation on Thursday of five domestic flights of Cebu Pacific Air to Naga and Caticlan. Reports said the cancellation came after bloodstain was seen at one of the engines of an Airbus ATR 521 turbo-prop plane of Cebu Pacific that was about to land at the Naga airport on Thursday. Flight 5J522 pilot Capt. Garcia managed to land the aircraft safely and later requested to the airport’s maintenance personnel to have the aircraft undergo inspection. The ATR 521 plane was scheduled to fly to Manila later in the day. An airport official, meanwhile, said that birds along the runway have always been a problem especially during the rainy season. CAAP said flight 5J522 will resume operation once the aircraft engineer and its mechanic had finished inspecting the engine for possible damage.
