Vincent Floirendo, the lone Filipino participant in the 2014 Ferrari Asia Pacific Challenge (APAC), finished 2nd in the Coppa Shell Category at the Finali Mondiali held recently in Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit.
Floirendo accomplished a total of six podium finishes throughout the competition. He placed third in three consecutive Coppa Shell races in Sydney, Shanghai and Inje and second in the Coppa Shell category in Fuji; and third in the Pirelli class also in Fuji.
A total of 14 racers participated in this year’s challenge. Floirendo came in fourth overall.

We are excited and honored to support him and other promising race car drivers in the many years to come,” said Marc Soong, executive director of Autostrada Motore Inc., the official importer and distributor of Ferrari cars in the Philippines.
The 46-year old businessman and family man is no stranger to the race track. Floirendo is a two-time Driver of the Year of the Yokohama Philippine GT Championship Series in 2011 and 2012. He is also a veteran racer in karting, circuit and Formula 3 competitions.
The Asia Pacific Trofeo Pirelli Pro series win went to Max Blancardi; Philippe Prette came in first in the Trofeo Pirelli Am; and local hero Tani Hanna in the Coppa Shell.
The Finali Mondiali weekend brought down the curtain on Ferrari’s 2014 racing year. The grand finale featured a record number of 458 Challenge cars who battled it out for the title of World Champion.
Apart from the racing, the main highlight of the four-day affair was the appearance of the Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 team, who put on demonstration runs, with pit stops, burnouts and starts. Also on track were the Ferrari GT cars that took part in the most prestigious GT championships, running the 458 GTE, the current FIA WEC championship winning car that was also victorious in the 2014 Le Mans 24 Hours, in the hands of Gimmi Bruni, Toni Vilander and Giancarlo Fisichella.
The Ferrari Challenge is one of the most popular one-make competitive series in the world, where over 2,400 drivers have raced from over 40 different countries since 1993. The Asia Pacific region has joined the race in 2011.
The race is divided into the Coppa Shell class and Pirelli class according to the participant’s racing experience and driving level. All drivers compete using the 458 Challenge EVO, the mid-rear V8 Berlinetta derived from the 458 Italia and the fifth model used by Ferrari in its one-make racing series. Each car will fitted with the EVO Kit starting this year.
