KIDAPAWAN CITY: At least three villages in low-lying areas of Pikit town in North Cotabato were submerged in water following days of perennial heavy rains in the region, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) said. Tahira Kalantongan, Pikit’s MDRRMC Officer, said affected villages—Panicupan, Dalingaoen and Gocotan—where water remained at waist-deep level and forced residents to flee to higher grounds. Some of the evacuees took refuge at Takepan Elem. School. Food packs and other relief items were distributed to displaced residents. The locals blamed the recent flooding to the swelling of water from rivers and irrigation canals in the municipality. Pikit is among the flooding-prone areas in North Cotabato provinces located near the Liguasan Marsh.
