FM Bersamina remains unscathed in Macau


FIDE Master (FM) Paulo Bersamina posted four straight victories to remain unbeaten in the Asean Age-Group Chess Championships rapid event being held at the Cotai Sands Conference Centre in Macau, China.

Bersamina defeated compatriot Marc Christian Nazario in the first round, Nguyen Phuoc Tam of Vietnam in the second, FM Arif Abdul Hafiz of Indonesia in the third and Mohammad Agus Kurbiawan of Indonesia in the fourth for a perfect score of four points.

Rhenzi Kyle Sevillano also grabbed the solo top spot in the boys’ 16-under event with 3.5 points. Daryl Unix Samantila is in a three-way tie for second with Pham Minh Hieu of Vietnam and Wei Bin Ong of Malaysia with three points apiece.

Stephen Rome Pangilinan of the Philippines and Nguyen Anh Khoi of Vietnam are leading in the boys’ 12-under while Woman FM (WFM) Cherry Ann Mejia is sharing the lead with fellow Vietnamese WFMs Nguyen Thi Mai Hung and Doan Thi Van Anh with three points each in the girls’ 20-under.
