FIDE Master (FM) Hamed Nouri grabbed the solo second spot after six rounds in the Hong Kong International Open Chess Championships 2013 being held at the Convocation Room of the University of Hong Kong.
Nouri overpowered FM Tsang Hon Ki of Hong Kong to raise his score to five points, just half a point behind tournament leader International Master (IM) Marcos Llaneza Vega of Spain.
Llaneza defeated Filipino National Master (NM) Roel Abelgas in the sixth round to improve his output to 5.5 points.
Abelgas, for his part, stayed in the third position with 4.5 points along with compatriot FM Deniel Causo, Li Bo of China and Daniel Lam of Hong Kong.
NM Nelson Villanueva and Woman FM Marie Antoinette San Diego are in a group of four-pointers while the seven-year-old Alekhine Nouri, the youngest FM in the world, has two points.
Meanwhile, FM Paulo Bersamina and Alexis Anne Osena topped the boys’ Under-15 and girls’ Under-15, respectively, in the National Youth Chess Championships Standard Competition.
Justine Diego Mordido (boys’ Under-9), Maria Elayza (girls’ Under-9), John Marvin Miciano (boys’ Under-13), Stephen Rome Pangilinan (boys’ Under-11), Shannon Mark Daniel Aguimbag (boys’ Under-10), Basil Joshua Apalla (boys’ Under-8), Rizalyn Jasmine Tejada (girls’ Under-13), Shanaia Marie Aquino (girls’ Under-11) and Precious Louise Oncita (girls’ Under-7) also ruled their events.
