Team Lakay fighter Eduard Folayang will go all out to snatch the lightweight belt when he faces legend Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki in ONE: Defending Honor on November 11 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.
After two consecutive victories over Adrian “The Hunter” Pang and Tetsuya Yamada, Folayang has nothing in his mind but to score another win for the country.
“I waited for this for so long and I promise to give my all strength to get that belt,” said the 32-year-old Folayang in a phone interview on Thursday.
Folayang said they are polishing his grappling and wrestling skills to counter Aoki’s submission tactics.
“As much as possible, we want to move away from his ground game. I want to use my striking skills to my advantage,” he added.
Team Lakay coach Mark Sangiao said that Folayang could not afford to be complacent against Aoki.
“Shinya is very good fighter. That is why we are really preparing against what he can do to Eduard,” said Sangiao.
Aoki is a Brazilian jiujitsu black belt and has won multiple grappling tournaments around the world.
The 33-year old Aoki is the defending ONE lightweight world champion and is riding the momentum of a nine-fight winning streak.
Aoki is also a DREAM lightweight champion and was a former shooto welterweight champion.
