Representative of the 3rd District of Camarines Sur Leni Robredo on Thursday morning said she will definitely run for senator, and not as vice president when she guested in a medical and educational financial assistance activity sponsored by 3rd District Representative Alex “AA” Advincula at Pilot Elementary School in Imus City, Cavite.
Robredo was invited by Representative Advincula to be the guest speaker of 800 individuals who are scholars and Social Welfare benefactors of Advincula Financial assistance program.
The congresswoman’s first stop was in General Trias at the Lyceum of the Philippines University Student Activity Center. After stopping by Imus City, she then joined a people’s day activity hosted by Dasmariñas City Mayor Jenny and husband 1st District Representative Elpidio “Pidi” Barzaga.
Robredo, who was being groomed by the Liberal Party to become Secretary Mar Roxas’ Vice Presidential candidate, told The Manila Times that she would run as senator of the republic, and not as vice president as opposed to what many political supporters are clamoring for.
When asked repeatedly if she would run for vice president, she said, “Vice president is an option.” When asked if she would run for senator, she said, “yes I will run for senator, I am looking for the surveys.”
The conservative congresswoman also said in many interviews that she will not run for vice president, because one of her reasons was she did not want the Villafuertes to benefit from such candidacy.
Leni Robredo, the widow of well-loved Naga City mayor Jesse Robredo, was proclaimed congresswoman of the 3rd District of Camarines Sur in the 2013 elections, after defeating Nelly Villafuerte, the wife of incumbent Rep Luis Villafuerte Sr.
The Villafuerte family has been in power since 1978.
