Team Ford Forza’s Joseph Miller is eyeing for a higher ranking when he competes in the 2016 XTERRA Asia-Pacific Tour Championship today in Langkawi, Malaysia.
The 36-year old Cebuano is currently ranked 11th with 135 total points after two XTERRA events in the Philippines and Saipan.
On top of the standings are South Africa’s Bradley Weiss (251 points), Japan’s Takahiro Ogasawara (247) and Australia’s Brodie Gardner (231).
The Malaysia leg of XTERRA is the last leg of its Pacific tour. Participants in the race will get a chance to double their points and improve their ranking.
Miller bagged the bronze medal in XTERRA Saipan leg.
“I want to finish strong in this race. My family inspires me a lot. They are always on my mind whenever I train,” he said.
The Malaysia edition will feature 1.5 kilometer open water swim, 30km off-road bike and 11k trail run.
Besides Miller, the other Filipino bets in the tourney are Elmo Clarabal, Tolitz Dagoy Albina, Jonel Borromeo and Tenggoy Colmenares.
The champion will receive a $2,000 prize while the second and third placers will get $1,500 and $800, respectively.
The Langkawi Island, where the tournament will be held has a natural history dating 550 million years and is among the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization’s 94 geoparks in the world.
