Seventy-six representatives from seven local people’s organization in Mangatarem, Pangasinan, together with their forest dependent families, underwent a membership orientation conducted by Lloyd Mangohig, Haribon’s membership development officer. Following the seminar, these groups became official members of Haribon Foundation, which is considered the pioneer environmental organization in the Philippines.
The activity aims to better introduce members to Haribon’s history, goals, mission, vision, and programs—what Haribon strives for, which is the cause of conserving and protecting the environment.
The people’s organization (POs) members were already exposed to Haribon’s cause through information, education and communication campaigns implemented in their sites, such as rainforestation and the call for the protection and conservation of their natural resources.
The POs had requested for the membership orientation for them to have full understanding and awareness of how effective an environmental movement Haribon is, not just in Mangatarem, Pangasinan throughout the country.
At the end of the orientation, 217 membership forms were submitted, a figure expected to increase as advocacy projects continue to be mounted by the foundation.
The new members are expected to commit their help and support in all environment related activities of Haribon.
