ORANI, Bataan: Former Rep. Antonino “Tony” Pascual Roman Jr., 74, of this town, died on Wednesday morning at the Makati Medical Center because of emphysema with heart complications.

He represented Bataan’s First District in the 12th congress from 2001-2004. Roman was also former member of Batasang Pambansa and served as deputy finance minister under Finance Minister Cesar Virata during the administration of the late President Ferdinand Marcos.

He last held the position of secretary of the Presidential Legislative Liaison Office under President Benigno Aquino 3rd.

He is the husband of incumbent Rep. Herminia Roman, now on her last term. Antonino left four children: Renato Marcelino Roman (a doctor), Geraldine Roman (journalist), Antonino Roman 3rd (lawyer), and Regina Wagan Cruz (a freelance artist).

Felicito Payumo, former chair of Bases Conversion Development Authority and three-term congressman of Bataan First District, condoled with the family of Roman.

“The passing away of former Rep. Tony Roman is a great loss to Bataan that he had served well. Although we were politically on opposite sides, I still have a high esteem for him,” Payumo said.

  1. Tony and I were schoolmates, and other years, classmates, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, from Elementary, High School and College. We were basketball teammates, MADISON, Intramural Basketball Champions, 2nd year high school. Tony was Pre-Law and I was Pre-Med. MOne of my fondest memory during our college days was our meeting in the annual debate, between Pre-Law and Pre-Med,as we both were Captains of our team. Tony was born to be a lawyer or a solon, articulate, diligent, frank and with integrity. I will always cherish my fraternal experience during and even after Letran days. God-speed on your Angel flight Tony.
