Former Bulls center Cartwright named Mexico coach


MEXICO CITY: Retired Chicago Bulls center Bill Cartwright, a key teammate of Michael Jordan during his NBA triumphs, was named the new coach of Mexico’s national basketball team on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila). Cartwright, 57, was presented by the National Sports Commission in Mexico City as the successor of Spanish coach Sergio Valdeolmillos. Cartwright’s first challenge will come in November with the Central American and Caribbean Games in the Mexican state of Veracruz followed by the Pan American Games in Toronto next year.
