Former NBA star Iverson arrives in Manila today


NATIONAL Basketball Association (NBA) scoring champion and Most Valuable Player (MVP) Allen Iverson will be arriving today in Manila to attend a charity event entitled “All In”, a fundraiser for the benefit of Gawad Kalinga.

The 11-time NBA All-Star player, who led the Philadelphia 76ers to 2001 NBA finals, will coach the Team Gawad Kalinga to be led by the Ball Up Streetball All-Stars and former Philippine Basketball Association All-Stars headed by Willie Miller, Ren-Ren Ritualo and veteran Jerry Cordinera.

Gawad Kalinga will play against PCWorx, which will be coached by PBA Grand Slam coach Tim Cone, will be bannered by DerMarr Johnson, a former Barako Bull Energy reinforcement, and another former NBA star, Eddy Curry, Kiefer Ravena of Ateneo de Manila University and Jeron Teng of De La Salle University.

The game is scheduled on November 5 at 7 p.m. at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Prior to the charity game, Iverson and Cone will hold a youth basketball clinic for ages 10-15 at the Gawad Kalinga Bulaklakan Chapter in Barangay Holy Spirit in Quezon City on November 4.
