ZAMBOANGA CITY: Former communist rebels in southern Philippines who have risked their lives fighting government troops have become messengers of hope of their community.

Six months ago Brother Danny Cuartero, of the Jesus Miracle Crusade International Ministry, climbed the mountains of Bukidnon to meet with former New People’s Army member Alde Salusad or Commander Butchoy and his armed group.

Cuarteros’s group had traveled to Bukidnon and trekked through mud and climbed cliffs for hours to convince Salusad to join the group, who were baptized in June.

“We are only instruments here. We are instrument of God, of his everlasting love, of his salvation, and most of all our strong faith to succeed because we know that God is with us and guiding us in all we do in spreading his glorious words and miracles,” Cuarteros told The Manila Times.

He added that Salusad told village leaders to play worship songs every morning to remind them of God and the ministry’s mission.

“That journey of faith and mission from God has become one of my most unforgettable experiences and it is a mission of peace. Ka Alde and his group accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and they wanted to start a new life through the Jesus Miracle Crusade International Ministry,” said Cuarteros.

The Jesus Miracle Crusade International Ministry is one of the largest and most churches based in the country that has stations in the United States and other countries.
