Former soldier nabbed for firing gun, feeping drugs


CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga: A former soldier of the Philippine Army and two others were arrested on Monday in two separate anti illegal drug operations in Olongapo City and Nueva Ecija. Chief Supt. Rudy Lacadin, Central Luzon Police Office Director identified the suspects as Virgilio Merin, former soldier Marvin Basilio, Rene Antonio. Lacadin said Merin was arrested for illegal discharge of a firearm after he fired indiscriminately in Iram, Cabalan, Olongapo City. Confiscated from Merin were a caliber 9mm Viper firearm while further search yielded 17 plastic sachets containing suspected shabu weighing about 4.5 grams. Basilio and Antonio were apprehended during a buy bust operation and confiscated from the duo were nine sachets of suspected shabu with estimated street value of P30,000.
