PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino 3rd needs to issue new ad interim appointments to four members of his Cabinet after they failed to get the nod of the powerful Commission on Appointments (CA) on Wednesday.
They are Secretaries Leila de Lima of the Department of Justice; Ramon Paje of the Department of Environment And Natural Resources; Dinky Soliman of the Department of Social Welfare and Development; and Carlos Jericho Petilla of the Department of Energy.
Paje faced the members of the CA Committee on Environment and Natural Resources Wednesday, hoping to get their approval on his appointment but one of its members manifested that he still had some questions for the secretary.
Sen. Serge Osmena 3rd said that he still had some questions for Paje prompting Sen. Loren Legarda, the chair of the committee to postpone the deliberation.
But since Congress adjourned its session Wednesday, the appointments of Paje and the other three cabinet members were deemed bypassed.
Senate President Franklin Drilon in a separate interview explained that the appointments of the four secretaries will be considered terminated the moment Congress adjourned its session.
“The president should issue them another ad interim appointment in order to enable them to continue discharging their functions,” Drilon said.
Meanwhile, the CA has confirmed the promotion of 83 senior officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
