FOUR people who are about to conduct illegal fishing off the waters of a remote village in Cagwait town, Surigao del Sur province were arrested by authorities, police reports said on Monday.
Reports at the Philippine National Police (PNP) National Operations Center in Camp Crame said that police have arrested Joel Abera, 36; Roger Pateros, 44; Raul Aporado 33 and Rudy Dumalaga, 36 and all are residents of Barangay Unidad, Cagwait, Surigao del Sur.
The reports said personnel of Cagwait Police Station arrested the four at about 12:30 a.m. on Sunday in front of the Sanctuary of Sabang Magdaop in Barangay Lactudan also of the same town.
The four were about to engage in illegal fishing method with the use of compressor or locally known as “Buso” when police arrested them, reports said.
The reports said that seized from the four were four improvised spear; two pieces of pins; two pieces of paddle boat; three improvised flashlights; two improvised mask; one ice box; one set of compressor and one pump boat with a 9hp engine.
The arrested suspects and their illegal fishing paraphernalia were brought to the Cagwait Police Station for proper documentation, while charges for violation of municipal ordinance on fishing code is set to be filed against them. Anthony Vargas
